At the highest point of the village, in the middle of the cemetery, stands the Gothic Church of the Virgin Mary. According to legend it occupies the site of a former Templar castle, inhabited far into the Middle Ages. A historic bell tower also stands on the site. A secret passage beneath it supposedly leads to a clearing in the village. People once dug their way through as far as the clearing and found an iron door, perhaps concealing a Templar treasure. When the lords of Pelhřimov learned what the villagers were doing, they banned further digging and ordered the passage filled in.
