St Adalbert's Banner

Around 990, St Adalbert founded the Church of St Wenceslas on a hill at the original Slavník hillfort. A standard made from St Wenceslas's lance and St Adalbert's banner was kept here. Bohemian kings carried it into great battles. The banner was divided halfway down into two narrower strips embroidered with a star. It disappeared during the various conflicts. It is supposedly walled up in a cellar beneath the church sacristy, resting on a marble table, from which St Wenceslas will take it when he rides out to help Bohemia.
