Hejmon is one of the lesser-known regional forest spirits. In the Vitoraz region he supposedly haunted poachers, while around Tábor related apparitions were called pohunkové and regarded as the souls of dishonest gamekeepers.

What the old legends say

Hejmon punished chiefly poachers and dishonest people in the forest. Honesty, respect for the forest and avoidance of illegal hunting were therefore considered the best protection. When faced with a strange apparition, it was wise not to provoke the spirit and to leave.
