Fabián was supposedly once a knight whom an unhappy lover enchanted into a forest spirit. He appears as a stocky, bearded little man in a forester's clothes, sometimes clad in bark and cones. His dwelling is placed on Baba hill above Hostomice, and he is often also associated with Plešivec.

What the old legends say

Fabián is not a typical hostile demon. Legends therefore emphasise respect for the forest: do not shout at the spirit, mock him or damage his landscape. If he calls or confuses someone, the traveller should calmly continue along a familiar path.
