Hans Heiling is a prominent figure in the German legends of the Loket region. He has supernatural power and is called the prince of the spirits of earth, water, air and fire. A legend credits him with building a magnificent city whose petrified remains people saw in the Svatošské rocks; his story nevertheless has a tragic and human ending.

What the old legends say

Hans Heiling is usually a powerful ruler of natural forces rather than a being against whom a simple spell exists. Traditional protection consists of respecting the place, not provoking the spirit, and leaving the landscape if the weather deteriorates or danger is sensed.
