It appeared as a boy with a conspicuously large head and slow speech. According to the book, it was the guardian spirit of the Kákov forests between Nepomuk, Plánice and Nalžovy. It was considered a fairly harmless relative of sprites.

Where it appears

The Šumava foothills around Nepomuk, Plánice and Nalžovy.

What the old legends say

Legends usually mention no special protection. Bejválek was more a guardian of the forest than an aggressive ghost. The best protection was therefore said to be behaving respectfully in the woods, destroying nothing and not provoking the spirit unnecessarily.
