Ústí Nad Labem · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Petrified Sirens

South of the town, Vaňovský Hill (561 m) rises above the left bank of the Elbe. A steep spur called Panenská skála, the Maiden's Rock, juts out above the river. According to local legend, the protruding basalt columns are three girls who lured boatmen towards them with their singing in order to kill them. As punishment, they were turned to stone.
