The Devil once built Roštejn Castle, north of Telč, hauling building stones from Oslednice hill (557 m) above Telč. The condition was that he had to finish before the first cock crowed. He was delayed, and just as he was dragging the last boulder, the morning crowing rang out. In fury, the Devil hurled the stone into nearby Staroměstský Pond, where it still lies. A large mark shaped like a horse's hoof is visible on it. It is called the Devil's Footprint. (See Roštejn.)
