Bystřice Pod Hostýnem · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Underground Army

People in the area say that an underground army is hidden beneath Hostýn. Drumming and the sound of horses’ hooves were supposedly often heard below ground. Some say the army dates from the Tatar wars; others believe Our Lady of Hostýn maintains it to protect Moravia from its enemies. In the darkest hour, the army will rush from the mountain and defeat them.
