Beyond the Renaissance château towards Hartmanice lies the so-called Valpuržino Valley. At a place called U lávek appeared the ghost of Hoppa, the wicked chief steward of Bystré Château. This cruel and ruthless man often supervised the labourers from here, and it was here that lightning struck him dead. He appeared at midnight, riding headless in a carriage and lashing about with a whip. A newly ordained priest from Hartmanice finally banished him. The cruel lord’s name lived long in popular memory and was even used to frighten small children.
