Ratková · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Petrified Shepherdess

Between Ratková and Suchá stands a hill with a group of stones, supposedly a shepherdess and her sheep turned to stone. They remain as they were when a weary old man cursed them after she refused to let him drink from her spring. Once a year, on the night before the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the shepherdess is said to come alive and run about the hill searching for her spring.
