Bread Shoes Brought the Castle’s Downfall

Near Nová Sedlice in the Opava region once stood Přerovec Castle, which supposedly sank into the ground because of a young noblewoman’s whim. She had shoes made from bread dough and danced wildly in them. Today the site is called the Glass Hillfort. A peculiar medieval construction method, in which a fire was supposedly lit around completed masonry, caused the individual stones here to fuse into a firm, glassy coating.
