The Petrified Traitors

Tradition says that an underground passage once ran beneath the Danube between Bratislava Castle and Wolfsthal Castle on the opposite bank in Austria. It is now supposedly blocked by enormous boulders that are really enchanted nobles who plotted a rebellion against Maria Theresa. As punishment, the empress had a local witch turn them into rocks. Another legend identifies them as former lovers whom the ruler had enchanted to stop them revealing her romantic intrigues.
