On a steep promontory above the Dyje survive only slight rampart and masonry remains of a castle already destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years’ War. A legend concerns a knight who made a pact with the devil. During a siege, the devil was to fill the perpetually dry well. He did so but demanded the knight’s son, to be handed over “when the lime tree in the courtyard turns green”. The cunning knight had the tree felled, depriving the devil of his victim.
