North above the market town, slight remains of the New Castle survive on a hill; it gave the settlement its name. In the mid-17th century, from 1629 to 1653, Matyáš Cyril Hein of Heinberg administered the estate, notorious for ruthlessly oppressing the subjects. One day he killed himself. Afterwards his ghost appeared on moonlit nights at the castle and below it, riding in a coach drawn by two spirited stallions. Anyone meeting him fared badly. Eventually his grave was opened and his head separated from his body. He allegedly never appeared again.
