Libčany · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Death of Lord Straka

In the originally Romanesque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the tombstone of the cruel lord Petr Straka of Nedabylice and Libčany, who died in 1720. It is said that he was buried alive and that banging and moaning were heard from the crypt beneath the church for several days and nights. His corpse was allegedly later found on the steps beneath the tombstone. A spirit appeared to people here as a large black dog that sat on the boundary between the village lands of Libčany and Lhota.
