The surrounding forests are associated with legends of Běla, a witch or beautiful fairy, who finally sank into the earth here with her black dog. On stormy nights she still races through the woods as the Wild Huntress. H. Spiess, the well-known writer of Gothic novels, used this material in his novel Knight Hanuš of Bleileben, or Běla the Witch of Doubravka. (See Doubravská Hora.)
