This moated manor belonged to Jakub Krčín of Jelčany and Sedlčany, regent of the Rožmberk estate, who kept an alchemical laboratory here, supposedly in the former ‘kitchen’ according to A. Sedláček. Renaissance murals with mythological figures survive upstairs. Legend says devils built the residence after a wager with Krčín. Cleverly he released a cock before dawn; it crowed, forcing them to relinquish his soul. The splendid house thus fell into his lap.
