Kopidlno · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The servant walled in alive

At the extensive Renaissance château in Kopidlno, a former owner supposedly had her maid walled in, suspecting her of stealing a precious brooch. Later at night, strange sounds like rolling barrels came from that spot. People avoided it. The owner eventually erected a Virgin Mary statue below the château in atonement. The brooch was later found behind a tapestry, where her trained magpie had carried it.
