Knířov · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The pilgrimage site's legend

The Gothic church, visible from afar, has been a pilgrimage site since the 18th century. Throughout summer many processions came to the miraculous Mother of God of Knířov. Below the hill near former ponds at the foot of Hájek was a spring credited with miraculous power. An old tale says the church was originally to be built outside Knířov on the road to Vysoké Mýto. But three times a mysterious old man on a white horse appeared at night and carried the foundation stones in his apron up the hill. There was finally no choice but to build there.
