Janov Nad Nisou · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The legend of Trniště

East of Janov nad Nisou rises a fifteen-metre granite rock with steps cut into it. A small wooden castle occupied by an evil knight supposedly once stood here. Worked rock surfaces with projections said to have supported its beams still survive. One legend says the robber knight made a wager with the devil, who later destroyed the castle and enchanted him into a wolf or eagle owl among its ruins. Another tale describes his release by a girl, rewarded with golden leaves.
