Long ago a fiery dragon used to fly from Džbán hill to Hředle. Whistling was heard in the village before it appeared. It caused much damage, and every attempt to kill it failed. Finally a local forester killed the dragon using a magical remedy. The legend is sometimes interpreted as an echo of ancient incursions by the Lučané into the border territory of the Czechs. The dragon was identified with the Lučané and the whistling with signals from the Chod border guards, called venatores in Latin, meaning hunters.
