In September 1603, a woman named Zuzana Santová was burned alive here, accused of witchcraft because she “anointed herself with a magic ointment, consorted with the devil, with whom she flew on a broom, could turn into various animals and destroy crops with hailstorms…” and so on. Under torture she confessed to everything.
