Above the highest window in the left wing of this moated château, an irregular outline of a cross can be seen. Even repeated coats of paint have not concealed it. People say that a former lord’s daughter abandoned her faith and threw a cross out of the window into the lake. The devil immediately carried her away and drew a bloody cross with his claw. In an attempt to hide the mark, the château was painted red, thus receiving its name.
