St Adalbert supposedly once became angry with the Czechs and left for foreign lands. After his departure one disaster followed another, including a great drought. When the bishop heard, he hurried back. Near Nepomuk he saw a barren hill, climbed it and prayed. He summoned rain, and because the hill was the first to turn green, it was named Zelená hora, Green Mountain. Behind the altar in the castle's Church of the Assumption is a patch of bare rock, green with damp. According to legend, St Adalbert stood on it before returning to Prague from his local hermitage. His footprint can also be seen there. Legends also say the Knights Templar once had a seat on Zelená hora.
