Nearby beside the same road stands another solitary rock called the Devil's Rock. A wealthy burgher once pledged his soul to the Devil on condition that the fiend carry half of Kunětická hora, tied in a straw rope, to St Barbara's Church in Kutná Hora. The Devil agreed. But while carrying the rock, between Spytovice and Lhota, the rope caught on the tops of oaks and snapped. The Devil was trapped, and the stone crashed into the ground, leaving only part visible today. He remained bound in the rope while all hell laughed at him. Local people eventually freed him after he promised not to harm them. The rock still has a visible groove like a ploughed furrow. Here the Devil was tied; his struggles chipped the rock and smoothed it in places.
