The Venus Folk

Illustration for The Venus Folk
Colour illustration in the style of a nineteenth-century drawing

In German legends from around Žulová, the Venus Folk inhabit caves and rock basins. They are only a little taller than dwarfs, and the female figures are described as graceful and well groomed. They generally do people no harm; on the contrary, stories tell of them helping and feeding children.

Where it appears

The Žulová area in the Jeseník region.

What the old legends say

The Venus Folk are mostly friendly in legends, so no special protection is needed. People were expected to respect their caves and rock basins, take nothing away and avoid insulting the beings. The best defence is therefore simply not to interfere in their world.
