F.J.Beckovský writes in his Messenger of Old Bohemian Stories: 'In the past year 1567, a very wealthy citizen of Turnov, Štěpán Hubner, died, and his body was honourably buried with great ceremony. He had been honoured and respected by all for adorning the town with several beautiful houses. Before long, reports spread that the body rose from its grave, chased people, embraced them and squeezed them so hard that several died from its embraces. The executioner was therefore ordered to dig up the body, take it to the gallows and cut off its head. When this was done, abundant fresh blood spurted from the body, although the rich man had died five months earlier. The executioner tore his still-fresh heart from the body and burned the corpse to ashes.'
