At night, the ghost of the cruel lord Půta Švihovský appears in the local castle. The Devil is said to have carried him off to hell. Ever since, a hole appeared in the roof of the great tower at Švihov Castle, through which the fiend had flown with his victim. This opening was never to be covered, and neither rain nor snow fell through it. The ghost also appears on roads leading to Horažďovice, near Sušice and sometimes as far away as the summit of Březník. He is extremely wicked, silent and sullen. In his hand he holds a fiery scourge with which he punishes anyone who fails to greet him. (See Rábí.)
