Spišská Nová Ves · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Sunken Château

A château with a bell tower once stood where the road leaves town towards Smižany. After drinking bouts, its lords sometimes rang the bell at midnight for amusement. One day an angry servant supposedly cursed the château, and immediately the entire building, tower and bell sank underground. Every year at the same date and hour, ringing is heard from the earth here, but only small, innocent children can hear it.
