Budyně Nad Ohří · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Dragon of Budyně

Long ago a dragon lived in the Ohře and devoured children. According to legend, people once threw it a calf stuffed with quicklime, and the dragon died. It was then hung from the ceiling of the passage through the town hall. The legend concerns the dragon-crocodile brought back from his travels by Jan of Házmburk during Emperor Rudolf II’s reign.
