Ptení · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Devil Nailed Down

After the mid-eighteenth century, Ptení Château was left unrepaired and threatened to collapse. Its upper floor was therefore dismantled, giving the building its present form. It was said to be haunted. One night a fearless wandering locksmith supposedly stayed there. At midnight the Devil appeared, and the locksmith nailed his fingers to the table. Only towards morning, after the demon promised never to haunt the place again, did he set him free.
