The Countess’s Hole

For a long time the originally Romanesque church in Vinoř, part of Prague since 1974, had a hole, later paved over, into which a proud countess supposedly sank. The lady of the Czernin family who owned the local château once had shoes made of white dough. She wore them to Mass, and during the elevation an abyss opened in the church floor and swallowed her. This is a version of a legend widespread in many parts of Bohemia.
