The Thief’s Withered Hand

In the entrance porch of St James’s Church, to the right of the doorway, a mummified hand and wrist hang from a chain. Nearby is a painting illustrating the legend. A thief once broke into the church, and when he reached for a precious image, the Virgin Mary seized his hand. She held it so firmly that it eventually had to be cut off.
