The Iron Man of Platnéřská Street

The Gothic house sign from the House of the Iron Man is among Prague’s oldest and is now kept in the City Museum. Legend says that a knight who killed his lover was transformed into this sculpture as punishment. Only once every hundred years could a young girl free him from the spell. When a widow with a beautiful daughter once lived in the house, he had hope of salvation. But the cautious mother ruined it: at the decisive moment she locked up her daughter and appeared before the knight herself, condemning him to wait another hundred years for release.
