Several legends explain how Brno Town Hall acquired its dragon. In one, Trut, the legendary founder of Trutnov, had it brought here. Another replaces Trut with Lord Albrecht of Trautenberg. During Duke Oldřich’s stay in Brno, the lord of Trautenberg gave the dragon to the duke, who in turn gave it to the town. The council had it suspended on three chains in the entrance hall of Brno Town Hall. Another legend says that the dragon once settled on Slatinská skála in Brno-Líšeň. Everyone feared it, so a reward was offered for its capture. A man earned it by sewing quicklime into an oxhide and feeding it to the dragon. The monster entered the Švarcava stream to quench its thirst; the lime began to slake and the beast died. The townspeople hung its skin in the town hall to commemorate the event.
