This historic building (no. 105), on the eastern side of Republic Square, where Wallenstein stayed during his time in Plzeň, was renowned as a haunted house. A ghostly black dog appeared there, a mighty flame shooting from its mouth. On the first floor, the spirit of an officer from long ago wandered at night, looking for documents and money, particularly in the old fireplace. Wallenstein’s treasure, his war chest, was also said to be hidden here. A so-called Black Lady, looking as if she were smeared with soot, haunted the house as well. The apparition of a mysterious old man also appeared, and strange knocking could be heard at night.
