His ghost wandered through the so-called Gerlach House (no. 344) and its adjoining garden. During a siege, attackers once tunnelled beneath this house, but they were discovered and the first man to emerge in the excavation was beheaded. His body was buried there and his head interred in the cemetery of the Franciscan church. Much later, when no one would live in the haunted house, its owner decided to dig up the skeleton and bury it together with the head at the Franciscan church. In the cellar stood a well above whose surface a blue light sometimes hovered. It is said that when the Hussites besieged Plzeň, the owner, a wealthy burgher, hid a great treasure in the well. Today the Gerlach House (no. 344) in Dřevěná Street is connected to building no. 106/13 on Republic Square.
