In the 17th century the estate and château belonged to Count Jindřich Šlik, Bohemia’s high chamberlain and a great patron of alchemy. The French alchemist Busardière was to make gold for him. Invited to Bohemia by Ferdinand III, he first worked for several noblemen. The count often asked his governor in Planá to obtain retorts and other alchemical equipment from Germany. (See Prague.)
