How Bohemian Paradise’s Castles Arose

An etymological legend about Pecka, Kost and Pařez tells of a cottager who found a bottle in the mud while a pond near Ostražná by Jičín was being drained. It held an enchanted powerful spirit, promising three wishes for release: the first three things the man touched would grow a hundredfold. Thus Kost accidentally arose from a discarded bone, Pecka from a cherry stone and Pařez from the stump on which the amazed man sat.
