Lužany · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Devil’s Taneček

Southeast of Lužany rises Lužanská hora, also called Zelená hora (491 m). Its highest point, Taneček, is steeped in legends. It is said to have been a pagan place of worship where ritual dances were performed. Taneček is also the setting of the legend of a sinful inn that sank into the earth, where a local girl named Káča danced with the devil. This local version inspired A. Dvořák’s well-known opera; the composer often stayed with architect J. Hlávka at Lužany château.
