John Dee stopped here briefly on his way to Germany after being expelled from Emperor Rudolf II’s court. According to the Rožmberk chronicler Březan, this was on 4 June 1586. The following day he continued towards Annaberg with his wife and children. The impoverished alchemist Trochopeus, a pupil of Sendivogius, also lived here. It is said that he sang at the town gates about everything alchemy had cost him.
