Around Krásná Lípa people told of Berndietrich, the Wild Huntsman's ghost, riding through the night and hunting with ‘wooden dogs’, the local name for wolves. Near Broumov he was called the Forest Huntsman. On certain days he rode with four fiery dogs preceded by a flaming hen, all supposedly souls damned to hell. (See Varnsdorf.)
