Kraslice · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The vanished castle

Vysoký kámen (773 m), a popular destination near Kraslice, supposedly once held a mighty castle. Cursed with its wicked lord, it sank into the rocks with great treasures. Roaring, shouts and neighing often rise from underground halls and stables. At night the din reaches three boundary crosses, where it fades. Near these crosses, on the terrace behind the school in Kostelní, is supposedly the entrance to a treasure hall. It opens only once a year on Good Friday. Another entrance is said to lie by the French Stone, a worked granite boulder dated 1808. A White Lady also appeared near Vysoký kámen at noon carrying old keys. Dwarfs supposedly once lived there and helped people work. In Kámen below the mountain, old Romanesque reliefs on the church's southern side supposedly portray three dwarfs who helped build it. Each night they finished what the masons began by day.
