The Black Madonna in the gate

Only the tower survives of Mikulovice Gate, called the Holy Gate since the 16th century, part of the town's original fortifications. Its passage is articulated by pairs of pointed projections. In a niche within one, framed in Baroque stucco, stands a Gothic polychrome wooden Virgin Mary statue, the Black Mother of God, from the first quarter of the 15th century. A Way of the Cross with seven chapels begins here.
