South of Jihlava near Popice lies the so-called Dwarfs' Cave, Zwirgalloch. It is probably the entrance to an old mine gallery in the Rančířov mining district. Legends tell of hidden treasures guarded by sprites. Another similar Dwarfs' Cave, Zwergliloch, lies in the Smrčenský stream valley northwest of Jihlava. This valley and its surroundings are full of rocky lairs. Old German legends also placed dwarfs on Vysoký kámen (681 m) and Kopule (637 m) north of Jihlava, hills near today's Prague–Brno motorway.
