Beneath Jičín château the town walls once had a small tanners' gate through which tanners went to soak hides in the Cidlina. The place is still called Pod koželuhy, Below the Tanners. A bridge crosses the river here, with a cross bearing Christ painted on sheet metal beside it. A witch was supposedly once burned here. After her death three great black dogs appeared and suddenly threw themselves beneath passers-by's feet, making them fall. People long avoided the place, until the cross with the Saviour was erected.
