Southwest of the town stretches the high wooded ridge called Dmout, or Ermout. It ends in a steep drop above Havlovice. On this spur, the ridge’s highest point at 580 m, once stood an ancient hillfort, and enormous scattered boulders can still be seen. The place is called Zámek or Na zámku. A secret passage, now half blocked, supposedly led from here to the castle tower on Chodské Square and to the cellar of a corner house opposite the Augustinian monastery’s Church of the Assumption. Both Chodský Castle and this house already stood within the town walls in olden times. A huge treasure is said to be hidden in the passage. Zámek hill is about three kilometres from the castle. It too supposedly conceals a treasure, guarded by a circle of silent ghostly old men sitting around a fire of gold.
