To the right of the road to Opočno, on a gentle rise on the left bank of the Metuje beside the cemetery and church, a fortified manor once stood. The place is still called Hradčany. A deep millrace surrounded it and later became overgrown with bushes. It is called Hluboká cesta, the Deep Way. After dark, the ghost of a black fiery dog emerged from it, with enormous glowing eyes. From its mighty tail it dragged a red-hot chain. Anyone it saw outdoors after the evening Angelus was supposedly torn apart. Only after a cross was erected on the manor site did the apparitions cease.
