A fantastic story from here tells how people unknowingly skinned a living horse. When they realised that it was alive, they smeared it with lard and stuck the skin back on. Since most of the fat came from geese, feathers grew on the horse. It flew away and laid an egg on Švihovská skála. The people of Balkov went to fetch it and brought it back on a great wagon. But because everyone wanted a share in return for their lard, they had to make soup from the egg so the whole village could share it. “That is why they built a little chapel outside the village and cooked the soup in it,” concludes the regional collector of legends J. Biskup.
